crossy road

CROSSY ROAD
This unit we redesigned something. There were many things we could do but I chose an intersection. We had several field experiences. One of which was with a tour guide who gave us a tour of the Chicago's world fair.

SDG 11
My ap connected to several of the targets from sdg 11 but I will list two.

This one connects to the accessibility and improved safety of my design. People with disabilities will have an easier time crossing the road.

This really opens up access to the park and it would make it easier for everyone to access.

personally I had a lot of trouble with the 3d design. I knew I could make it but I didn't have everything I needed. I downloaded some custom content and it became a lot easier. I am very proud of the work I did. I think I showed my design in the way I wanted to and got it across.

Economical space travel: Billionaires in space

In this term we looked at space and space exploration. We started by looking back at the antient astronomers that paved the way for what we know today. We learned about Aristotle, Pytholmy, Copernicus, Isaac Newton, and Kepler. We discussed how the ideas around our universe changed and how religion shaped science. We also learned about Kepler's laws and the math of ellipses. For our action project we looked forward. We asked ourselves what challenges are facing the future of space exploration. We read articles from NASA and frontiers to get an understanding of the grand challenges and each of us picked one. I picked economical space travel. The economy of space has always been very interesting to me so this was a wonderful opportunity to learn more. I learned about how capitalism impacts space travel and those who are trying to make space travel accessible for those who can afford it.  Citations:  Image from: Wattles, Jackie. “Jeff Bezos Is Going to Space for 11 Minutes. Transporting to the future

Transporting to the future In this class we learned about the future and what we can to to design the future in the class "Redesign the future." Saving the environment is the name of the game. We went to Rheaply and learned about circular economies and how we can implement them into our life and our world. We looked at systems and how looking at how things connect can allow our ideas to be more effective and more informed. We went out into the city and looked at how we can improve the systems in place.  I learned a lot in the creation of this project. I never really looked subjectively at the way the city's trains are mapped out until now. There are clear areas on the south side that have no train lines while part of the north side are packed with them. Part of having a sustainable city is having a reliable public transit system. I designed a train line with that in mind along with a more accessible train platform. I tried to 3D print my platform but no matter...

Making a Space

Making a Space For this AP we focused on making our space usable for school and a place we would want to learn in. We discussed what defines a classroom. We took a field experience to Millenium Park to investigate what defines a classroom. As a school, we asked what it means to be a successful student and teacher at GCE. We discussed what we expect from ourselves and our teachers. The student body brainstormed the traits of a successful student and came up with a social contract for both the students and the teachers.   Social contract for students: We will work in a timely fashion. We will be curious. We will pay attention to the work, fellow students, and teachers. We will be encouraging. We will participate. We won't distract.   Social contract for teachers: We will accept feedback. We will be accommodating and flexible. We will be patient. We will have one on one time. We will be excited to teach! We will be understanding.   Both the student body and the teachers agre...
