Economical space travel: Billionaires in space

In this term we looked at space and space exploration. We started by looking back at the antient astronomers that paved the way for what we know today. We learned about Aristotle, Pytholmy, Copernicus, Isaac Newton, and Kepler. We discussed how the ideas around our universe changed and how religion shaped science. We also learned about Kepler's laws and the math of ellipses. For our action project we looked forward. We asked ourselves what challenges are facing the future of space exploration. We read articles from NASA and frontiers to get an understanding of the grand challenges and each of us picked one. I picked economical space travel. The economy of space has always been very interesting to me so this was a wonderful opportunity to learn more. I learned about how capitalism impacts space travel and those who are trying to make space travel accessible for those who can afford it.  Citations:  Image from: Wattles, Jackie. “Jeff Bezos Is Going to Space for 11 Minutes. Lou's School: An Education Situation

This is our last trimester of senior year and the last humanities action project. We learned about different types of endurance and discussed what types of endurance we think we are most capable of handling. We learned the difference between endurance by choice and endurance by force. Endurance by choice is when you decide to do something. An example would be deciding to work out every day and enduring the pain of it no matter what. Endurance by force is something you don't have a choice in. This could be dealing with an unexpected medical issue and how you keep yourself moving forward.  This term we talked a lot about the future. We created a survival guide for what we want in life. We were made to self reflect very deeply. This AP was really hard for me. I always struggled thinking about what I wanted from my future but this project made me feel like maybe I do know what I want and actually create a plan for moving forward.

The accessibility of marine assessment tools

In this unit we learned about the ocean. We learned about different parts of the ocean and about the chemicals that make up the ocean. We learned about  the shapes in the ocean and how we can measure them. We discussed the struggles that affect the ocean and how we can improve the future of the ocean. We each did a literature review about a grand challenge. Mine was assessing marine ecosystems health in an integrative way. Throughout this project I really latched onto the accessibility of assessing marine health. The tools used can be incredibly expensive and unrealistic to get. In order to know what to change we have to understand what is going on with the marine environment.   The future of the ocean is unstable, we are at a point where we need to pick how to move forward. What we decide to do will have consequences, either good or bad. Something important is our ability to measure how dire the situation is. This is where assessing the marine ecosystem's health comes in...

Drawn-Out Drawing

This was our second action project in endurance. We learned about many different people’s struggles in history. We read Night by Elie Wiesel and discussed what it meant for him to endure. We thought about what endurance means for each individual person and how different people can endure different experiences.  This project really pushed my understanding of what it means to be an artist and the accessibility of making art. I felt like I grew a lot. I began to understand what I want being an artist to mean to me. Art is your own personal journey and what you decide to do with that is difficult. Something that really interested me when working was how expensive digital art can be. Procreate is one of the most popular art apps. There are tons of tutorials online and learning it is very accessible. Procreate is also only available for apple devices which makes it very inaccessible. Apple is a lot more expensive than android but is considered the go to. My tablet cost 350$ and cam...

Fancy Fidgets

In this unit we learned a lot about how businesses work and the legal structures. We talked about social good that businesses can do. I never thought about what goes on behind the scenes so this was a very good opportunity for me to understand how so much of the world works. We created our own business plan for our own real or fictional business. We discussed taxation and how would our taxing work. I feel like I learned a lot from this unit.  Fancy Fidgets At Fancy Fidgets we will supply fidgets for professionals. Many fidget toys are loud and have distracting bright colors that are not suitable for a workplace. We want to make fidget toys more accessible in professional environments and lead us to a fidget friendly world. Our fidgets would not make sound or draw attention with bright colors. They would be wearable and accessible. Many people need fidgets to focus on their work. We would sell our products online. We would ship all throughout America to begin and grow as we ne...

Health care for all!

This unit we looked into human rights and the way things may change for the future. We never know what will happen but we can imagine what might. We read articles from the past and brainstormed about what is next. We thought about intersectionality and how activism is used to forward our nation. I feel like I learned a lot about empathy this unit. I really felt like I got to understand how things work. We looked at weather or not things are social constructs and had very interesting discussions about that. I got to see perspectives I didn't consider and I am grateful to have had this opportunity. The year is 2121. Heath care has finally been made a human right in America. Let's take a peak into the future. Health care for all Every American has the right to their health, treatment, and prevention of disease or sickness. No human, organization, or financial standing, can interfere with a person's access to health care. This includes and is not limited to injury, disease, a...

Sexism in the gaming community

sexism in the gaming community In this unit we looked a lot at history text books and what history means. We studied what does it mean to be a marginalized voice and what are the stories marginalized people have to share. We had many class discussions and read a case for reparation's. I learned about different ways people have privilege and different ways people may be marginalized. I never thought about class, ability, race and gender in such an open and honest manner before. I realized that things that seem like common knowledge to me aren't for everyone else and others do not know what I do and I don't know what others know.
